For tea, coffee and juice, a small amount of mild dish soap in cold water works; rinse by blotting with plain water afterwards so no soap residue stays to attract dirt. Avoid hot water on protein stains (milk, egg) — it sets them.

Book a professional deep clean every 12-18 months — sooner for homes with pets or allergies. If your carpet is carpet tiles, one advantage is that a badly stained single tile can simply be replaced instead of cleaning the whole floor.
